Combining two Pyrenean traditions, Basque and Gascon, Xarnege has become ear-grabbingly energised by its new featuring of electrified hurdy-gurdy in powerful textures with fiddle, bagpipe, alboka, txistu, xirula, guitar, accordion, propulsively throbbing bass, percussion and increased male and female vocals, hinting at the kind of thinking that produced Sweden/Finland’s Hedningarna or France’s Malicorne.
