Present day Romany singers of Norway, Sweden and Finland. The only Finn, Hilja Grönfors, would be at home alongside the Balkan greats. She likes to be accompanied, though, so her 10 solo tracks here, while valuable, don’t fully represent her quiet magnificence. Norway’s Kent Hallman is a notable trad singer; some are more interesting for their songs than singing. Singers on CD2 are accompanied, to varying standard, including Roma rap. www.etniskmusikklubb.no
