Because of the flatness of its bridge, allowing bowing of more than two strings at once, and a variety of tunings, a hardanger-fiddler can self-accompany, sounding somewhat duet-like. Here’s a good exponent from Hardanger, playing rich-toned solo springars, rudls and hamborgars, and joined by tasteful dance-impelling accordion for reinlendars, waltzes and polkas.
