URBAN TRAD
Sanomi
Universal Belgium 9865427 (2003)
Yves Barbieux’s compositions pillaging Riverdance, Hedningarna, Bretons, La
Bottine et al gather in a programmed Pan-Euro swamp – look, there’s the
ominous-synthy-beast, the low-whistle-bagpipe bird, the guitar gnu, the
squeezebox serpent, the windblown hare – and the title track, sung by an Ialma
member in an invented language, comes second at Eurovision. Calculating, yes,
but infinitely preferable to the UK’s sad “nil points” opus.
