BOOK
TOM MAGUIRE
The Tin Whistle Book
Ossian Publications ISBN 0 946005 25 7 (1986)
Subtitled "an easy, straightforward approach to playing the tin whistle.
Complete with a selection of easy tunes and traditional song and dance airs from
Scotland, Ireland, America, Canada, Australia, Brittany, England and Wales",
this book is exactly what it says it is. It's also a fitting preamble to the
book by Geraldine Cotter from the same publisher, reviewed in F.R. 28. It would
be OK for children with reasonable reading ability, or help, too.
A small, cheap, effective introduction to a
small, cheap, effective instrument; it could even help to save the world from
the class-fulls of tootling recorders.
