BOOK
FINTAN VALLELY
Timber: The Concert-Flute Tutor

Long Note Publications ISBN 0-9511569-0-X (1986)

To quote its press release, this is "the first tutor for the wooden 'Simple-System' concert flute as played widely in traditional Irish music, and in other European musics". It is, too, and even if it wasn't it'd be the best. It's witty and comprehensive - embouchure, tuning, music, grace-noting, breathing, maintenance, history, makers and repairers, discography - and any information not to be found within it can become the motivation for close observation of, or an intelligent question to, a good player.
