TEPPO REPO
Paimensoittaja
Kansanmusiikki-instituutti KICD 7 (1994)
CD re-release, with extra tracks, of 45 recordings of one of Finnish music’s
most important traditional sources of both material and style. A great explorer
of instrumental possibilities and musical individualist, Ingrian-born Repo
(1886-1962), sequentially shepherd, Russian army French horn player and
sewing-machine mechanic, here plays a range of his distinctive wind instruments
- birchbark-bound duct flutes and fingerholed trumpets, reed clarinet, a piece
of bark - and also 11 and 14-string kanteles.
