KATI SZVORÁK
Eclipse - Hungarian Folksongs
Hungaroton Classic HCD 18239 (1999)
KATI SZVORÁK & THE STONEMASONS
Meotis
Etnofon RepER-CD 032 (2000)
Fine exponent of that classic Hungarian female singer focused stillness, Kati
Szvorák on Eclipse delivers groups of folksongs from particular areas,
including Gyimes, Moldova and Transylvania, either unaccompanied or with sparse
accompaniments of bowed strings, kobsa, bagpipe or throat singing. On Meotis,
a live and lively set recorded in the USA and at Edinburgh Festival, she joins a
gutsy band of Ferenc Kiss, Béla Ágoston and Zsigmond Lázár using an expanded and
more prominent range of traditional instruments and vocals.
