P. A. RØSTADS ORKESTER
Fjellfiolen

Own label LHCD-11-001 (2011)

Generally records by Norwegian gammeldans bands are cheesily-packaged chunks of stolid four-square dance music. But it can be done well, particularly if, as here, the fiddle’s audible over the accordions, guitar and bass. And in this long-established band, now led by Røstad’s grandson, the fiddler is Frigg’s Einar Olav Larsen, which helps. www.parostads.no

EINAR OLAV LARSEN TRIO
Lysblåin

Etnisk Musikklubb EM84 (2011)

Einar Olav and pianist Daniel Rossing Trustrup, plus bassist brother Audun Larsen, inspired by the Røstad band’s first fiddler, Hilmar Alexandersen, who had a duo with a piano-driver, pitch elegantly and swingily into their type of repertoire - ringlenders, galopps, waltzes, a foxtrot and a wedding march. www.emcd.no
