RAKNES/JUUSO
Skáidi – Where The Rivers Meet

DAT DATCD-44 (2008)

Sámi joiker Inga Juuso counterpointed by jazz double-bassist Steinar Raknes. She’s a well-known, real-thing joiker and they work well together, and these 14 tracks, traditional joiks and some new-style, have their moments, particularly the grumbling, pattering Guovza – The Bear and a sliding, Chinese-sounding song, but there’s not really enough variety of sound to sustain a whole CD. www.dat.net
