ØYONN GROVEN MYHREN
Gullveven
Etnisk Musikklubb EM 20 (2008)
The high, head-tone voice seems to have been a prevailing range for centuries
among Norwegian female singers. Myhren, from western Telemark, member of groups
Dvergmål and Aurora Borealis, uses it in a set of ballads, many passed down
through her mother’s family, self-accompanied for some on seven-string lyre or
occasionally by hardingfele, small pipe organ or gongs.
