SEÁN Ó RIADA
Ó Riada’s Farewell
Claddagh CC12CD (1996)
Reissue of a classic recording, made just before he died in 1971, by a man, here
playing solo on an upright harpsichord with the feel of the old Irish harps, who
got right to the heart of Irish music and whose impact still reverberates. No
classical preciousness here, it’s rough in places but brimming with meaning. The
CD pack, incidentally, has a stick-on strip with the title in Braille; what a
simple good idea, and another tip of the hat to Carolan and the other blind
harpers.
