NIKO VALKEAPÄÄ
Niko Valkeapää

Duippidit DPP500 (2003)

Despite appearances - sharing the surname of his late godfather, famous joiker Nils Aslak Valkeapää, and the presence of some Mari Boine band sidemen - Niko’s Norwegian Grammy winning music isn’t joik, but mostly closer to a soft Nick-Drake-like style, though lyrics include two Nils Aslak poems and some of the melodies and accompaniments are somewhat in the reverby joik-rock vein.
