NA LÚA
Feitizo
Do Fol BOA 10002019 (1999)
Throughout its long career Na Lúa has followed a winding path through approaches
and styles, but it has been a path consistently different from that of other
Galician bands. The upsurge in popularity of Iberian roots musics seems to have
sparked some of the long-established bands into a new focus and directedness,
and Feitizo shows this one refreshed and exuberant.
Full of memorable traditional melodic shapes and
rich-textured instrumentation, rattling skipping pandeiretas, thudding bombo,
thrumming fretted strings and Antón Rodríguez’ and Cándido Lorenzo’s skirling
gaitas and single reeds, with vocals by the main arrangers, frets player Paz
Antón and accordeonist/guitarist Xabier Debesa, plus guests Aloia Martínez and
the female vocal group As Donicelas, this is probably the most lively, natural
and upfront album Na Lúa has ever made.
