VARIOUS
The Leu’dds Of The Ancestors

Folk Music Institute KICD 87 (2007)

Leu’dds – not joiks but melodic narrative chants – plus songs and dance-songs from the Skolt Sámi people, whose homeland is on the Russian-Finnish-Norwegian border. All these singers had fled in 1944 when retreating Germans burned their houses and laid mines, and some of the leu’dds speak of that, still recent when they were recorded by Finnish radio in 1955 and 1961. It's not practical to give, and keep up to date, current contact details and sales sources for all the artists and labels in these reviews, but try Googling for them, and where possible buy direct from the artists.
Helsinki's Digelius Music record shop is a great source of Finnish roots and other albums.
