Well-known Norwegian jazz singer performs, in pleasant unaffected warm voice without jazzing, trad Norwegian songs from the printed collections of her great-grandfather, balanced by sensitive, minimalist touches of John Surman’s tradition-aware reeds, Mads Berglund’s hardingfele, or piano. The Water Is Wide, in English, as opener gives quite the wrong impression of what’s to follow.
