KARELIA
Karelia
Bluebird BBL 1041 (1986) (vinyl LP)
Karelia's eponymous album contains elegant jazzish instrumental developments of
traditional Finnish themes, using kantele, jouhikko and tanoflute to add texture
to sax, synths and rhythm section. A bit lacking in raunch and memorable tunes;
too much 'atmosphere' and not enough guts for this reviewer's taste, but
well-recorded and an excellent direct-metal-mastered pressing.
