RUPER ORDORIKA, JOSEBA TAPIA, BIXENTE MARTINEZ
Hiru Truku
Nuevos Medios NM 15666 (1994)
Three leading Basque musicians, singer/guitarist Ordorika, trikitilari
(melodeon-player) Tapia and Oskorri’s Martinez on mandolin, bouzouki and guitar,
with a set of traditional ballads from western Euskadi.
Straightforwardly-delivered, with occasional contributions from Eliza Carthy and
Nancy Kerr. Inevitably, to get the full picture, lyrics and melody as they
happen, needs an understanding of Euskera, or failing that recourse to the
Spanish translations; nevertheless melodically it’s a window into the forms and
rhythms of Basque song.
