HEDNINGARNA
Trä
Silence SRSCD 4721
Overwhelming - this is a record I dreamed of. Huge sounds, voices silky and
grinding, joik, chaos, chainsaw and falling tree, percussion thunder,
breath-rhythms, and at last icy running water. Music that steamrollers both
safety and the smartass and goes ahead and screams, and words in Finnish and
Swedish so cunningly formed and uttered they leap through the language barrier.
It does what folk-rock seemed to promise but never had the nerve to deliver and
does it without kit drums or bass guitar but with a whole new armoury of noise
weapons sharing and supporting but never obscuring those individual voices. The
real thing, and straight into the Swedish top 10 within a week of release.
No prosaic analysis - dance and fear.
