Romania – Lapus Song
Ocora/Radio France C 600023 (2009)

An unusual release: unaccompanied Romanian singing. From Lapus in Maramures, Lese, in 1995 Radio Romania recordings, sings doinas, seasonal songs and epics, his voice in its prime, strong and declamatory, with rafter-ringing perfectly controlled sustained high notes and sometimes edge-of-yodel hocketing in the lower register, and occasionally interjects wooden trumpet and whistle.
