More glimpses of Portugal’s traditional riches sneak out despite the apparent
reluctance of the country’s major label to publicise in our direction (these and
other good stuff came via Portuguese journalist Luís Rei). Two unaccompanied
vocal groups from the region of Alentejo, the Castro Verde group consisting of
women and that from Pias of men. Both have that rich, grainy, vibrant sound of
southern European harmony, led by characterful solo voices.
