JAN BEITOHAUGEN GRANLI
På Beitohaugen
Ta:lik TA50CD (2010)
For a sense of just how different Norwegian hardanger playing can be from other
fiddling, I’d strongly recommend a listen to JBG, playing with total command in
the tradition of his family farm Beitohaugen. Dense, curling, cascading clusters
of notes, often bowing three strings at once, in leaping rhythms whose link to
his footstamp is often fascinatingly non-obvious. Witty on-CD video too.
