BANDADRIATICA
Maremoto / DVD Rotta Per Otranto
Finisterre FT 50 (2009)
The audio impression from the CD is a big Italian band of brass, reeds, cello
etc drawing on Adriatic musics from Italy to Albania but mainly fast
Balkan-style brass with jazz excursions. Hot and accomplished, but vocals much
less so, shouty or struggling to keep up and in pitch.
Enlightening, though, is the included DVD of the
band’s boat trip to Tirana, Durrës and Dubrovnik working with local musicians
including lijerica player Ivo Letunic of Croatia’s Kries. No subtitles, but the
band members come across as likeable and keen to relate to other musical
cultures. www.finisterre.it
