Tuning the fiddle differently from standard GDAE to ‘open’, ‘cross’ or ‘scordatura’ tunings not only facilitates the playing of some tunes but opens up a whole new range for melodic invention. It’s not as common in Finland as Norway and Sweden, but here JPP’s Arto explores the possibilities, solo, in traditional Finnish and his own tunes. www.artojarvela.net
